滨松微型光谱仪是一个紧凑的多色仪，其把如光栅、图像传感器以及其驱动电路等的多种光学元件都集成在了一个紧凑的封壳内。被测光由光纤导入输入口，然后由内置图像传感器进行光谱测量并通过USB接口输出至PC以用于数据采集。
传统的高性能的光谱仪用途广泛，但是他们往往体积庞大且昂贵，一般会被放置在实验室内，因此样本的分析测试在地理空间上将受到很大的限制。
